Limoncello only has a few ingredients; lemons, alcohol, and simple syrup. But, you are going to want to plan ahead for this recipe. As it takes about a month for it be ready.

Once you combine the lemons and alcohol all you have to do is shake the jar every couple of days and watch the transformation.

I’m making this as Christmas Gifts for my friends as well as for my Limoncello Spritzer.

Ingredients

  • Fruit and Vegetable Wash
  • 10 Organic Lemons
  • 750 ML 100-proof Vodka
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  • The first thing you want to do is soak your lemons in fruit and vegetable wash. -Even if they are organic, don’t skip this step. – I use the one from Trader Joes.
  • Start by peeling the lemons, being sure not to get any of the bitter white pith.
  • Place lemon peels in jars and pour Vodka over the lemon peels.
  • Attach lids and store in a cool dark place for 2 weeks or up to 30 days.
  • Shake the jars every couple of days.
  • After the steeping period, pour steeped Vodka into a large bowl or pitcher using a strainer lined with a coffee filter to strain out the lemon peels.
  • Discard peels and set the bowl aside.
  • Combine sugar and water in a sauce pan and bring to a low boil stirring occasionally. As soon as the sugar dissolves, turn the heat off and let come to room temperature.
  • While waiting for the simple syrup to cool, rinse the jar you used to steep the Vodka and pour the vodka back in the clean jar.
  • Once the, simple syrup cools pour it into the jar with the vodka.
  • Store it in a cool dark place for at least 3 weeks and up to 40 days.
  • Shake the jars every couple of days.
  • After it has finished steeping, use a funnel lined with a coffee filter (optional) to pour the limoncello into the glass storage/gift bottles.
  • Attach a gift tag with jute wine and you will have the most delicious gift to share with family and friends.

You absolutely must use organic lemons. But, even still, you should use a fruit and vegetable wash to clean the lemons before you steep the peels. I use the one from Trader Joes. But Amazon also sells one with good reviews.

Use a vegetable peeler to peel the lemons. Be very careful to avoid as much of the bitter pith as possible.
